To all who met him, Kreh was bigger than life.

He was engaging, approachable, and had a zest for life and fly fishing that were contagious.

His contributions to fly fishing, the outdoors, and conservation are innumerable.

The FOLK Program has two primary goals:

Lefty Teaching

1. Carry on Lefty’s tradition to promote the sport of fly fishing

Honor the life of Bernard ‘Lefty’ Kreh by continuing his lifelong efforts to promote the sport of fly fishing and protection of our natural resources. To accomplish this goal, FOLK will establish continuing educational programs in Lefty’s name, and personnel to provide clinics in all aspects of fly fishing.

2. Pay tribute to a legendary sportsman in his home town

Lefty’s unparalleled accomplishments in opening up the sport of fly fishing and his commitment to conservation began in Frederick Maryland. To celebrate his connection to Frederick, as well as raise awareness of what Lefty stood for, the initiative also includes placing a life-sized bronze sculpture of Lefty wading and casting in Baker Park’s Culler Lake, very close to where Lefty was born. Lefty utilized this lake countless times for casting lessons and demonstrations since it was just down the street from his home in Frederick.
