To all who met him, Kreh was bigger than life. He was engaging, approachable, and had a zest for life and fly fishing that were contagious. His contributions to fly fishing, the outdoors, and conservation are innumerable.

In 2021, Fly Fisherman magazine voted Lefty the Greatest of All Time. In 1991 the post office released a stamp commemorating his world famous fly, “Lefty’s Deceiver”. Lefty is honored in three fishing halls of fame.

However, with all this recognition, there has been no Frederick County recognition for its own hometown son. A site for those outdoor and Lefty enthusiasts is not only a way to honor an accomplished and acclaimed Frederick citizen, but will become a talking point for visitors as well as an inspiration to both adults and children to pursue fishing and the love of the outdoors.

We will install a bronze memorial of Lefty Kreh placed in Culler Lake at Baker Park, including a sign detailing his history and contributions to society

  • Honor a legendary sportsman in his hometown

  • Draw attention to Baker Park and the Frederick area

  • Promote love and appreciation of the outdoors

Culler Lake, Baker Park

Culler Lake is the best example in Baker Park of both a natural setting combined with man made accents, working in harmony. The combination of the natural grasses, wetlands along with the skate house and fountains. The sculpture of Lefty Kreh, a celebrated conservationist, is a bridge to that harmony. The sculpture will be nestled in to one of the wetlands, hidden by the setting, there to be discovered by the passerby.
